Last month, we had the privilege of welcoming a new partner to VolunteerHub: Vestiaire Social Geneva, a clothing distribution center dedicated to supporting people in need.
This partnership represents an important step forward in our mission. But it also brings back memories of where our journey began.
A Story That Started in 2022
While preparing this blog post, we revisited one of our earliest volunteer initiatives — a clothing donation drive organized in 2022.
At the time, one of our core volunteers showed remarkable initiative. She gathered a small team and decided to support a local clothing distribution center that had been closed for a long period due to a lack of resources and volunteers.
When we first went there to deliver donation bags, we were not expecting what we saw.
The center was full of visitors.
Our volunteer was there, fully engaged, managing the distribution alongside her elderly mother. The need was immediate and overwhelming.
That day, we met a refugee family who had travelled all the way from the canton of Vaud. They were hoping to find clothes for their young son — but unfortunately, there was nothing available for him.
It was a difficult moment. One that stayed with us.
Taking Action
That experience became a turning point.
We realized that goodwill alone was not enough — structured support, consistent volunteers, and coordinated donation efforts were essential.
From that day forward, we began actively recruiting volunteers online and organizing donation drives across Geneva.
We travelled throughout the city, collecting clothing and redistributing it where it was most needed.
Our volunteer continued to lead the effort, helping to run the center and coordinate donations for nearly three years. Her dedication ensured that the center remained active and responsive to the community’s needs.
Moving Forward with Greater Impact
Today, after years of hands-on experience, we are proud to collaborate with Vestiaire Social — an established organization capable of operating at a much larger scale.
Through this partnership, we can:
Support more individuals and families in need
Improve the quality and consistency of clothing distribution
Strengthen our impact through a structured and sustainable approach
A Shared Mission
Vestiaire Social embodies the values we believe in: dignity, solidarity, and inclusion.
Together, we aim to ensure that everyone — regardless of their situation — has access not only to clothing, but to respect and human connection.
This partnership is not just a milestone. It is a continuation of a journey that began with a simple act of volunteering — and a commitment to do more.
